Mass. is ranked among top 10 states for collection of property tax revenue

In Massachusetts, property taxes make up 20.8% of the state's tax revenue. But all of its New England neighbors ranked higher.

Massachusetts has the ninth highest property tax collection rate in the United States, according to a review of US Census Bureau data by Porch, an online service that connects owners with home improvement professionals .

But its five other New England neighbors ranked higher on the list.

Some states rely on property tax revenue more than others. In Massachusetts, property taxes make up 20.8% of the state’s tax revenue, but in Alabama, that figure is 6.9%, according to the report.

Here are the states with the highest property tax collection rates and the percentage of their tax revenue that comes from these assessments:

  4. Connecticut (25.8%)
  5. Texas (24%)
  6. Vermont (23.9%)

  10. Nebraska (20.4%)
  11. New York (18.9%)
  12. South Dakota (18.8%)
  13. Florida (18.1%)
