Actual police reports are not released since they may contain information critical to an investigation or which could be used for identity theft. Verification letters may be provided by the records room or your investigator.
No, your crime or incident must have occurred in Fairfax County, VA. If the incident happened outside Fairfax County, VA, file a report in the jurisdiction where the crime occurred. The only exception to this rule is Identity Theft. As an example, if you reside in Fairfax County and your personal information was used fraudulently outside Fairfax County, we will generate an Identity Theft case for you for reporting purposes only. You will still need to report the crime in the jurisdiction where it occurred, should you decide to pursue the matter further.
The Financial Crimes Squad takes over 4,500 complaints of financial crimes annually. This system is the most efficient way to process and prioritize those complaints. If you choose to report your financial crime through another method, it may take longer for you to speak with an investigator and have your report taken. If you still do not want to file your report online, you may call the Fairfax County Police Department's non-emergency number, 703-691-2131. The call-taker will direct you to the Community Reporting System and an officer will take your complaint over the phone. Your phone complaint will then be forwarded to the Financial Crimes Squad for review. You may also go to any one of our eight Fairfax County Police - District Stations and report the incident in person.

Be advised that it is a crime to make a false police report. Anyone found to have submitted a false police report will be prosecuted under the authority of Virginia State Code, Section 18.2-461, which shall be punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor. Maximum possible penalty is one year in jail and/or $2,500 fine.
